Title work is its own pipeline. Do not force gift transfers through a purchase OTD template.

Purchase path

Dealer purchases usually bundle title with tax and registration on one buyer’s order. TagTally’s purchase tools target that path.

Private sale path

Buyer and seller complete title assignment, possible inspections, and tax affidavits. Fees are often smaller than full purchase tax but deadlines are strict.

Gift and family path

Some states reduce tax between spouses or parents/children when forms are correct. Wrong form = full tax treatment. Read the agency checklist; do not rely on forum folklore.

Is title fee the same as sales tax?

No. Title fee is usually a flat or scheduled agency charge. Sales/excise tax is a separate line on purchases.
